A towering wall of water dominates the composition, carrying a sense of height, weight, and sustained pressure. The wave breaks along the upper edge, while below, multiple currents converge and swirl—intersecting forms building compression and upward force.
The surface is constructed through layered blues, ranging from deep cerulean to cold prussian tones, creating a sense of depth and mass within the water. Stylized white linework—drawn from Tibetan visual traditions—defines the shifting edges of the wave, guiding the eye upward toward the cresting forms.
A restrained field of red storm light occupies the upper corner, built from cadmium red and fluorescent pink. This small area of warmth creates tension against the dominant cool palette, suggesting atmosphere, distance, and imbalance within the scene.
The composition operates as an all-over structure. Movement begins in the lower convergence of currents and rises through the surface, resolving at the crest. The result is both forceful and controlled—an image of pressure, release, and suspended motion.
Convergence No.1 marks a turning point within the series. It is the first fully resolved work in which the underlying visual language—developed over decades—was allowed to emerge without restraint. The painting reflects a shift away from control through hesitation, toward clarity through acceptance.
What remains is a study of force held in balance: the weight of water, the energy of movement, and a moment of stillness within both.
Panel works are produced in limited annual quantities.
