The entire surface of the panel is occupied by water—flat, expansive, and in a state of quiet motion. No horizon is present. Instead, space is established through the repetition and frequency of subtle swells, creating distance through rhythm rather than perspective.

The composition draws initial influence from the optical phenomenon known as Shiranui, where light appears to hover and shift across the surface of water. Here, that effect is translated into a controlled field of reflection and tension. Highlights move across the surface in small, concentrated intervals—some rendered in paint, others through the use of metal leaf—marking the points where water, light, and atmosphere meet.

The underlying structure is built from deep blues consistent with earlier works in the series, establishing depth beneath the surface. These cooler tones are softened and layered, allowing the surface to feel both substantial and open. In contrast, the reflective elements remain sharp and precise, creating a dialogue between depth and immediacy.

Subtle accents of magenta are introduced within the field of light, expanding the palette while maintaining restraint. The result is a surface that appears calm, yet fully under tension—held in a continuous state of balance between stillness and movement.

This work represents a shift within the series. Rather than focusing on force or form, it examines the behavior of light across a controlled surface. The language of the work expands here, moving from structure into perception—where movement is minimal, and attention is directed toward the quiet complexity of what is seen.

The painting offers a sustained moment of stillness: a meditative field in which light, depth, and surface are held in equilibrium.
